The Coordinating Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research introduced the Innovation Dashboard in June 2015, amongst the scientific and academic community of Sri Lanka. Being the main output of COSTI, the dashboard was developed as a means of one stop-shop information point for science, technology and innovation. The Innovations Dashboard featured decision makers, researchers, publications, inventors, partnerships, patents, places, inventors and all factors in relation to science and technology.
In early 2016 COSTI partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to extend the Innovations Dashboard to include a citizens’ engagement platform, the Idea Board. This platform serves as an interface where anybody with an idea on how to make our community better and more efficient can enter this idea which will then be picked up by an individual or organization who has the capacity to act on it, thus engaging the entire community in the quest to integrate innovations in activities that impact our day to day lives. This also goes in line with people centered development, which is reiterated in the call for people’s engagement in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
