Open Source Weather Stations for Water Management and Climate Observatory

Since 2013, the International Water Management Institute has been developing Open Source Weather Stations. These open-source solutions can be built at very low cost and give any agency using them full control over development, installation, operation, maintenance, and the resulting data. A variety of sensors can be plugged into the stations to enable multiple use cases. Because of their open-source nature, anyone can build and deploy them. In addition a variety of business can, and have been, set up providing further development of the devices or related services. Although there is a learning curve, the devices could be excellent solutions for land, water, and environmental management agencies, farmers, weather and climate monitoring, and many other purposes.
